The trial gives you full Tōtara-level access for 14 days, free, so you can build a hub, add content, and see how it works before talking pricing.
It isn't a separate plan — think of it as a preview window. At the end of the 14 days, you'll either:
move to a standard Tōtara subscription,
talk to us about a custom Ngahere plan, or
do nothing, and your hub drops to Kākano (free tier) limits.
From the pricing page, select the trial option on the Ngahere card.
Enter your email address and organisation name. That's it — no payment details needed.
Your hub is created automatically at Tōtara-equivalent access, ready to use straight away.
You have full Tōtara-equivalent access — publish resources, invite learners, use the features available at that tier.
On your first login, a short walkthrough introduces the key parts of the platform.
Need a hand? You can reach us anytime through in-app messaging for 1:1 support.
Around day 10, we'll send a reminder email and an in-app nudge — a heads-up that your trial is ending soon, with an invitation to talk through next steps rather than a hard sales push. If you already know you want to keep going, you don't need to wait for this — you can act any time.
At day 14, one of three things happens:
Situation
What happens
You've added a payment method / chosen Tōtara | You move to a standard Tōtara subscription. No interruption. |
You want Ngahere | We'll set up a custom quote conversation — this happens outside your trial billing, with Pera. |
You haven't added a payment method | Your subscription is paused (not cancelled) and your hub drops to Kākano limits — see below. |
Nothing is deleted, and you're not locked out.
Your subscription moves to a paused state — this isn't a cancellation. If you come back later, it picks up cleanly on the same terms.
Your hub drops to Kākano (free tier) rules: enterprise features are switched off, and your resource/shareable count is capped at Kākano's limit (1 free resource + 3 paid).
Your existing content isn't deleted — anything over the Kākano limit is simply unpublished, not removed.
You'll get an email letting you know your trial has ended and your hub is now on Kākano limits.
When you log back in, you're not blocked or shown a pop-up. You land in your hub as normal, with a banner at the top:
Your trial has ended, and your hub's back on Kākano limits for now. Your content's still here, just unpublished. [Upgrade to Tōtara] [Talk to us about Ngahere]
Upgrade to Tōtara — takes you through standard self-serve checkout. Once payment is confirmed, the banner disappears and full access unlocks straight away.
Talk to us about Ngahere — opens a booking link to a conversation with Pera: book a time
Either way, once your hub is upgraded to Tipu, Tōtara, or Ngahere, the banner is removed automatically.
Do I need a credit card to start the trial? No. Trial signup only needs an email address and organisation name.
What happens to my content if I don't upgrade? Nothing is deleted. Anything above the Kākano free-tier limit is unpublished (not removed) until you upgrade.
Can I come back after my trial pauses? Yes — your subscription is paused, not cancelled, so it resumes cleanly whenever you add a payment method or upgrade.
What if I want Ngahere, not Tōtara? Use the "Talk to us about Ngahere" option on the banner (or reach out any time before your trial ends) to book a custom quote conversation.
Is there a time limit on staying paused? Long-paused trials may receive a follow-up check-in from our team, but there's no automatic deletion.
