If you’re wondering whether Kaha Create is accessible to your organisation without a commercial subscription — this page is for you. The short answer is yes. But the model is different from a discount, a trial, or a charity handout. Read on.
Kaha Create operates through two separate but connected entities:
Kaha Create Ltd is the commercial platform — an AI-powered learning and knowledge sharing tool available to businesses, educators, and organisations across Aotearoa and beyond.
Koha and Kaha Charitable Trust is a registered charity that funds and administers platform access for community organisations who couldn’t otherwise afford it.
These are separate legal entities with independent governance — and that’s intentional. The separation protects charitable integrity, maintains data sovereignty, and ensures the Trust operates in the interests of community, not commercial growth.
The key thing to understand: this isn’t a discount tier. It’s a different model entirely.
Every commercial subscription purchased by a business or organisation funds equivalent access for a community organisation through the Trust. That means:
You access the same full platform — no locked features, no “lite” version
The Trust handles eligibility and allocation independently from Kaha Create Ltd
Community funding doesn’t rely on grants or goodwill — it’s built into how the business works
Registered NZ charities and not-for-profit community organisations
Iwi, hapū, rūnanga, and kaupapa Māori organisations
Social enterprises and mission-driven organisations who would otherwise be unable to access the platform at commercial rates
Organisations nominated by an existing commercial Tōtara or Ngahere subscriber
What it’s not for: commercial businesses, government agencies, or organisations with the capacity to pay at standard rates.
If you’re not sure whether your organisation qualifies, reach out before applying. We’d rather have a kōrero than have you spend time on an application that isn’t the right fit.
Approved organisations on the Tōtara tier contribute what they can — anywhere from $0 to $49 per month.
You set the amount. There’s no invoice with a minimum. No “we’ll check in and raise it later.”
Contributions go to Koha and Kaha Charitable Trust — not to Kaha Create Ltd
Receipts are available on request (useful for your own grant reporting)
Your data remains entirely yours — the Trust has no claim over your content or community knowledge
This is tauutuutu — fair reciprocity, not a transaction. You give what reflects the value you receive and what your organisation can sustain. That’s it.
The process is straightforward:
Get in touch using the link below.
The Trust board assesses eligibility — independent of Kaha Create Ltd. This is by design.
You hear back within 10 working days.
If approved, Kaha Create Ltd provisions your account and connects you with your kaiārahi — your dedicated onboarding support person.
You’re up and running.
If a commercial subscriber has nominated your organisation, the process is the same — the Trust still makes the final call. A nomination is influential, not automatic.
Unlimited free and paid courses
Hub administration and learning analytics
AI-powered content creation tools
Two-way learning and custom URL
Dedicated mentorship support for content development
Priority access to community funding and resource-sharing initiatives
Your data remains yours.
Neither the Trust nor Kaha Create Ltd can access your content or community knowledge without your explicit consent. Cultural labels apply where relevant, giving you the tools to apply tikanga-based access protocols to your mātauranga.
What the Trust doesn’t have: commercial control over your platform use, the ability to share your data, or any claim over your mātauranga.
If you’re a paying Tōtara or Ngahere subscriber, you can nominate a non-profit or kaupapa Māori organisation to receive access through the BOGO model. Here’s how it works:
Nominate when you sign up or at any point during your subscription
Kaha Create Ltd passes your nomination to the Trust for independent assessment
The Trust decides — your nomination is influential but not automatic
You’re notified of the outcome
If the nominated organisation isn’t eligible, the Trust may suggest an alternative
You don’t need to have everything sorted before you get in touch. If your work serves community and you’re wondering whether Kaha Create can support your kaupapa, the best first step is a kōrero — no obligation, no sales pitch.
Applications are reviewed by the Trust, not the Kaha Create sales team. You’re talking to people who care about the same kaupapa you do.
Access to knowledge infrastructure shouldn’t depend on the size of your budget.
If your work serves community, we want to make this work for you.
