Remember: Core Principles
Kaitiakitanga (Guardianship)
You are a guardian of this knowledge. Share it in ways that protect its integrity and serve those who should receive it. Invite-only hubs are one tool for guardianship, but they don't replace your responsibility to ensure appropriate use.
Manaakitanga (Care for Others)
Consider how sharing this knowledge affects others - not just its benefits, but potential unintended consequences. Even within your iwi or organisation, some people may not be ready or appropriate recipients for certain knowledge.
Wairuatanga (Spiritual Awareness)
Some knowledge carries wairua that cannot be transmitted digitally. Respect when face-to-face transmission is more appropriate, regardless of access controls. Digital tools serve learning but don't replace authentic transmission.
Whakapapa (Connection)
Acknowledge the sources and lineage of knowledge. Nothing exists in isolation. Invite-only hubs for uri recognize whakapapa as a criterion for access, but the knowledge itself still carries its own whakapapa that must be respected.
Access Controls Are Not Magic
Remember: invite-only settings create barriers, but they don't guarantee protection. Members can still screenshot, share inappropriately, or misuse knowledge. The strongest protection comes from choosing what to digitise in the first place, not just who can access it.
Still Uncertain?
That's okay. When in doubt:
Don't upload yet - Take time to seek guidance
Contact Kaha Create support - We can help you think through these questions
Consult your community - Their wisdom will guide appropriate sharing
Start small - You can always expand access later, but you can't take back what's been shared
